Is it more better to leave the engine running or the turn off the engine? (Isuzu Trooper Automatic Diesel)?

i mean, if my waiting for someone to pick them up and they'll be done in like five minutes or so, is it better to turn off the engine or leave it running? which saves more fuel and which is better for the engine? i drive an automatic isuzu trooper that runs on diesel.
