Why does the U.S. deal politically with undemocratic/shady foreign governments?

Glad to see that not every one's a cynic, LOL. Unfortunately the US has wanted the wrong people on its side in many, many countries and situations, because they were willing to do the bidding of the US elite, and further enrich US oligarchs.
