Do you think that the simpsons will soon be able to overtake family guy because of its 20th season?

In a way, it already has. The Simpsons WERE way more popular than Family Guy is/ever was. But because of stuff like Family Guy/South Park/Americian Dad, etc The Simpsons seem much more subtle now and people are more used to "in your face" humour.
