Webcam question about using it with IM?

When you have you webcam open with one person in an IM will it automatically be open when someone else IMs you. There is only one person I want to see it and I just wonder if someone else opened a conversation with me if they would see it to. I am over 18 so spare me about webcam safety and all that.
